FAQ

CUSTOM DESIGNS and QUOTING

How long do quotes take?
Our general turnaround time for quotes is four days. Because we charge by the lineal metre, all quotes are quickly drawn up in order to get an accurate price for you. If it’s urgent, be sure to let us know.

Tell me more regarding the ‘Design Deposit’ on your website.
Why am I paying $79 for something I haven’t got yet? We spend a lot of time working with type, illustration or both to craft your vision. For example, we have even used a copy of David Bowie’s hand-written lyrics to form a bespoke font for a Bowie fan. Each neon approach is very varied and highly considered. This is 100% refundable towards the cost of your purchase. It also tells us you’re fairly serious about getting in the queue so we can dedicate our time to making it perfect.

By purchasing the neon design deposit, you are entering into the design phase. See more about the design process here. We go off the ideas you have submitted, along with any other images or bits that inspire you. We then work away on your design, and get some options back to you. We then work closely with you until you’re happy with it and are ready to go ahead and commit to placing your order. If, in the unlikely event you choose to NOT go ahead with purchasing the custom neon Electric Confetti has designed, this $79 is all you will pay. However, if you approve the design package and then enter manufacturing phrase, we have a strict no refunds policy for the entire cost of the light.

What if I want a font that isn’t one from your range?
We can make most fonts work! Just let us know what the font is – or send us a snap if it’s to replicate a certain style. If it can’t be replicated in the neon medium, we will guide you towards one that is as close to your preference as possible.

Can you turn my logo into a sign?
That we can. It would be ideal if you could supply us with the vector (.ai or .eps file) but if not, simply send us what you have and we will take care of it.

What is double line vs. single line neon?
Double line neon follows the outside of the letter, whereas single line neon is a single line of neon. Double line has a lot more impact, and is great for large scale signs, or where the font needs to be replicated precisely. Single line neons work best for smaller scales, or if budget is a concern. We can send more examples if required!

Do you do moving neon?
Yes, just ask us! Depending on complexity, expect to pay $300 additional for the programming of the movement.

How does the design process work?
The longest part of our process at Electric Confetti goes into the digital design of your piece. As we are a design-based studio, please be patient and realise due to highly considered designs, this process can take up to two weeks after the purchase of the design deposit.

Can I speed up the design process?
We do offer a priority service, additional fees apply. Always let us know up front that you will require a priority service so we can meet your needs!

PRODUCT INFO

What can I expect to receive with my neon sign?
Our signs are designed and come with a 12 v Australian-approved adapter, which plugs directly into a conventional wall socket. You also get a dimmer dial which enables you to dim the brightness of your neon right down. So in your box, you will get:

  • LED neon sign (clear exit cord is permanently attached)
  • Black power adaptor [Australian-purchased and approved to national standards]
  • Australian/NZ IEC cable (used to connect adapter to the wall – this can be switched to the pin head of choice depending on requirement)
  • Screws to use in existing holes pre-drilled on LED neon sign.
  • Electric Confetti holographic zip pouch containing dimmer dial, custom printed microfibre cleaning cloth and a fun sticker.

Is it breakable?
The nature of the LED neon means it’s very robust – virtually unbreakable. The most fragile part of your neon is the acrylic it’s backed on – which is super strong! During the design phase, we just have to make sure there are no ‘weak’ spots in the backing shape which could put pressure on the acrylic, leading to breakages.

Do the signs buzz or hum?
No, they’re silent.

How long do they last?
Around 40,0000 to 50,000 hours, or 2-3 years if left on 24/7. Of course, you can extend the lifetime of your LED neon greatly if it’s not on all day and night.

How are they made?
All our custom signs are made by hand based on the digital design concepts we create. LED flex tube is cut and bent into the pre-approved design. As they are made by hand (not machine), please be aware that small amounts of glue will be visible on your sign (when you look very closely).

How much does it weigh?
LED neon is surprisingly light! On average, our signs weigh 4-8kgs.

How does LED neon flex differ to traditional neon?
With a string of LEDs encased in a PVC jacket, LED neon flex looks very similar to traditional glass-blown neon. LED neon flex is a durable flexible and energy-efficient modern alternative. While we admire traditional glass neon, the non-breakable, low voltage nature of it means it's more user-friendly. Because of this, it's super simple to send in the post and installation is a breeze!

How is it powered?
Your sign is connected to a power socket and plugged directly into the wall. Each piece comes with a 12V transformer, safe for indoor use. Unlike traditional neon, our signs don’t require hardwiring by an electrician (however, you can certainly get an electrician to hardwire your sign if that’s what you want). All electrical adapters are purchased within Australia and designed to Australian standards with Australian electrical plugs. We can also provide international IEC cables meaning you can use it in any country, and if you're purchasing from overseas we will provide your plug.

How does it work?
Your neon sign is mounted to the wall (or hung). The sign has pre-drilled holes for the screws. Exiting the sign is a cord. This cord plugs into the provided adapter, which then plugs directly into the wall.

What are the signs mounted on?
All signs are mounted on a high quality clear acrylic backing. The shape of the acrylic can be cut to shape (so cut in close to the neon to follow the outline) or rectangular. We also offer printed backing, CMYK ink is printed to the back of the acrylic, adding an additional element to your sign.

Do you do freestanding neons?
Yes! We offer a few freestanding frames available to hire or buy. Alternatively, you can purchase clear acrylic feet at a cost of $150. These are table-top stands and can be used on signs 40cm high or under.

What colour is the cord?
The cord exiting your neon is a thin copper and silver wire encased in a clear coating. This connects an adapter via a male and female connector. The black cable on the adapter provides an additional 1.5 metres of length.

How long is the cord?
All cords are standard size of approx 2 metres long, we can make this longer – just ask! This doesn’t count the additional 1.5 metres of black cable from the adapter.

What colours can I choose from?
There are 17 beautiful Electric Confetti colours to choose from. We offer ‘pastel’ and ‘vivid’ ranges. The difference being the pastels are a softer colour, and when switched off their tube, or jacket colour, is white. There’s also the ‘vivid’ range, which produce a stronger hue and their jacket remains coloured when off. You can lessen the brightness too using the supplied dimmer switch.

Can I have coloured acrylic?
Yes! We offer a limited range of coloured acrylics that you can use as an alternative to the clear we use as standard. We can help you match these to a pantone colour if you have specific brand requests. Another alternative is UV printing.

Do you do pantone colours?
We cannot create tubes to match pantone colours, as we have a set of 16 standard colours. We can guide you on matching to a pantone if you require and suggest the closest match. We can also use the CMYK breakdown of the pantone to offer printing on the plastic of your design. Ask us more about this!

What is UV printing?
UV printing is a process where CMYK inks are printed into the acrylic that the neon is mounted to. We can match CMYK breakdowns as provided. Please note, because the ink is printed into clear acrylic the colours a little more muted as it's not printed on white. It is still super effective however, and is a handy way to get more detail if the neon can't work with the design, or as a way to save on budget. The cost for this is $250.

Can you make moving neons?Yes! We create an animation of your neon for you to approve during the design process.

Can you have battery operated signs?
We don't offer battery packs, but our signs can be illuminated with battery packs from the likes of battery world, or by using small generators. We have also heard people use scooter batteries.

How big can you make the signs?
Size is no issue! We can make a neon sign as large as you like, we'd cleverly connect the signs together if the size is greater than 2.4 metres. For a sign on one piece of acrylic, the max size is 1.2 x 2.4m. Therefore the largest length of two sizes of one sign can be 1.2 x 1.2m (a circle for example cannot exceed this size). As stated, we can go as large as you require and link separate signs together.

INSTALLATION

Do you provide an installation service?
Our signs are super simple to install, they just require screwing to the wall. If you wish to have it professionally hardwired so the wires are not visible, we can organise that. Alternatively, if you’re working in a commercial capacity and require it hung we can help out.

Can I install it myself then?
Absolutely! The nature of the LED neon means it’s very robust. Unlike real neon which is delicate and has the tendency to shatter, you don’t need to be super gentle when handling our signs. All signs come with screws ready to hang. If you wish to install your sign from the ceiling or in a window, hanging wire can be supplied at no additional cost.

How do I connect it?
In addition to your awesome Electric Confetti neon sign, you will receive a black adapter (wattage varies from 12-90), IEC cable, remote and white connector.

  1. Grab black IEC cord (socket will vary depending on country) and connect to three pin space on adapter.
  2. Plug into wall socket. Do not turn on.
  3. Insert dimmer (if a medium or small sign) cord between adapter and sign cords
  4. Join cord coming from your Electric Confetti neon into opposing (male) end of adapter.
  5. Switch on power at the wall.
  6. Admire your piece!

CLEANING YOUR NEON

How do I clean it?
Wiping down with your complimentary microfibre cloth is the best practice (or course, while the LED neon is unplugged from the electrical outlet). Do not use any chemicals or sprays as they may corrode the surface.

SHIPPING + DELIVERY

What are the postage costs?
The shipping cost is $25 for metro Melbourne. If in wider Victoria or interstate, shipping is around $35. We can also offer same-day services in Victoria for $55 upwards – depending on location. International shipping, prices start from $120 depending on size, weight etc.

Do you ship internationally?
We love our international Electric Confetti appreciators! We ship internationally and can provide all international power adaptors to suit. Contact us and will provide you with a shipping quote (if you are asking for a custom order where weights vary, we will provide you with an estimated price range for shipping before you commit to your order. Once we have worked out the size, we can provide an accurate shipping quote).

Unclaimed Packages
For packages that are not claimed within 14 days, Electric Confetti reserves the right to charge you a handling fee to cover return shipping and freight companies' administrative costs.

Can you use my shipping company?
No, Electric Confetti has established relationships with couriers we know and trust. As such all items will be dispatched using our preferred shipping means.

Uh-oh, I need a custom neon for my sister’s birthday which is really soon, is this possible?
We can prioritise your sign for an additional fee. Generally expect to pay 30% on top of the price quoted for your sign. We can create it for you in as little as 5 days, but usually around 10. Basically, we work back from the date you give us. Why the additional fee? We put you to the front of the design queue, expedite your concepts, and send your sign to be manufactured individually outside of our regular schedule.

*please* be aware, while we do our absolute best to get your sign here by your deadline and not making a date is something we're proud to say hasn't happened (less than 1% of total orders) but that said, factors outside our control (hello, internal computer virus at Fedex) will always mean there’s room for disappointment. We advise to always give us as much notice as possible to avoid these delays.

RETURNS/WARRANTY

What is your returns policy?
Electric Confetti offers a one-year manufacturer’s warranty on all products. Please contact us if you have any issues within this timeframe.

The warranty strictly covers faulty products, not general wear or damage due to misuse. We carefully package our products when sending them from Electric Confetti HQ. However, if damage has occurred in transit, please advise us as soon as you receive the product. There is a strict no return policy on custom lights (however, if there is a fault, we will do our absolute best to rectify it).

Transport Damage
The risk in the product is passed to the Customer upon delivery to a postage or courier company by Electric Confetti.

What if I change my mind?
If you change your mind prior to production, that’s ok! If you want another concept, we can re work your design upon the purchase of a new design pack.

DO YOU DO WHOLESALE, COMMERCIAL and COLLABORATIONS?

WHOLESALE
We mainly sell direct from our store so we can keep the prices as low as we can. That said, we are always interested and open to discussion with potential commercial partners.

COLLABORATIONS
Thank you for your interest in working with Electric Confetti! We partner with many brands each year. We love to align with brands that reflect our fun, quirky style. However, we do have a limited capacity of partnering with other brands, so please don't be offended if we say no.

PRIORITY SERVICE

Can you get my sign to me sooner?
We can prioritise your sign for an additional fee. Generally expect to pay 30% on top of the price quoted for your sign. We can create it for you in as little as 5 days, but usually around 10. Basically, we work back from the date you give us. Why the additional fee? We put you to the front of the design queue, expedite your concepts, and send your sign to be manufactured individually outside of our regular schedule.

We advise to always give us as much notice as possible to avoid these delays.

HIRE

Do you hire signs?
We sure do! Our standard range is available here. If you have a particular theme, or want to query about something not on the link we can help. Prices typically start at $100 (3 days) for a small neon, $150 for medium, or $300 for large. Many of our off-the-shelf items are available to hire, but this isn't a general rule of thumb. We do a lot of one-off pieces that come and go, so what's on offer can change day to day. The best way is to let us know your theme/ideal sign and we can suggest what we have in stock to suit.

The venue we're using doesn't allow us to hang on the wall, how do I hang my hire sign?
We offer a small range of stands available to hire and buy. If attaching to a mesh screen, the best way is to cable tie the sign to the screen. Ensure the cable ties aren't any thicker than 5mm (the standard size of the screw holes in our signs). Cable ties can also be used to attach to greenery walls. You can hang from the ceiling/above using fishing wire and a combination of cable ties. Also, carabiner hooks are your friend!
